My exams are finally over! My computer survived just long enough for me to get the requisite studying done but just barely: after crashing several times several of the keys on my keyboard no longer work! I can no longer use commas or periods so instead I am writing dreadful run-on sentences and ending them with exclamation points! I'm sorry if this makes me seem really hyper - I'm not; I just lack punctuation!

I think my French history exam went pretty well all things considered! Also this morning I recieved the assignat that I had purchased from some Italian guy on eBay a while ago! I took this as a good omen for my upcoming exam (the way my studying has been going I need all the luck I can get)!

I realize this is probably fairly painful to read and my brain is pretty fried anyway so I'm not really up for a whole lot of writing! Instead I'll post some shitty cell phone pictures of my shiny new assignat!

My assignat! Dated to Year I of the Republic (1792 if you want to use THAT calendar)! The text at the bottom says "La loi punit de mort le contrefacteur" - assignats are SERIOUS BUSINESS guys! Though maybe if the Revolutionary government hadn't printed so many of them they wouldn't be available for $5 on eBay now!

Still it's just about the most awesome thing ever! There were a few that were in slightly better condition but I kind of like how this one is a bit chewed up around the edges - I can kind of imagine some Parisian sansculotte waving it around while arguing about the price of bread (then turning to his sansculotte friend and saying "Fuck this shit; let's surround the National Convention and demand the death penalty for hoarders!")

FRENCH HISTORY IS THE BEST EVER OKAY

Okay I just took this one because I like taking pictures of myself and because it demonstrates just how tiny the assignat is compared to my big giant head! Also apparently I can't have normal facial expressions in photos?

Tomorrow I head out to Ottawa where I will hopefully spend the next two weeks watching TV in my parents' basement and taking a much-needed break from being an adult! As long as my mom doesn't nag me about my fashion choices or try to make me eat anything low fat I expect this to be truly awesome!

Yo, miserably happy: I don't know if you've heard of Kate Beaton, but something in her Canadian History Comics stylings reminds me of the stories you tell about the French Revolution and various ridiculous bits of Egyptian history.

There's one. The rest are at beatonna.livejournal.com.
